{"product_id":"imperial-good-companion-4-typewriter-serviced-refreshed-and-ready-to-type","title":"Imperial Good Companion 4 Typewriter","description":"This is an Imperial \"The Good Companion\" Model 4 typewriter, made in England in 1960. It has been deep-cleaned, adjusted, polished and fitted with a new ribbon. In good cosmetic and mechanical condition, it is ready to help its next writer compose many more pages. \n\nThe typewriter is in good cosmetic condition. The original paint, a sort of green-grey aquamarine, shines nicely, having been cleaned, polished and waxed with a microcrystalline wax. There are some marks here and there, most conspicuous of which are on the front left corner and the front left of the ribbon cover. There are also some marks to the back panel of the typewriter. \n\nBoth decals on the front of the typewriter are in very good condition, and the sticker on the back is in good condition, with a little bit of wear.\n\nThe chrome is in very good condition, and each part has been polished with metal polish. The only areas that show any wear are the paper bails and the bail rod, where there is some light loss of chrome plating.\n\nPlease zoom in on the pictures for proper viewing, as they make up part of this typewriter's description. Please get in touch if you would like further pictures.\n\nThe platen and feed rollers have been cleaned with rubber rejuvinator. The platen has hardened with age but still retains a suitable amount of give. The rollers are soft and grippy and in good shape. As a result, it is easy to feed paper into the typewriter.\n\nEach of the black and dark-green plastic keytops, as well as the spacebar, have received a clean and polish with plastic polish. The keytops exhibit some light wear and scratches to their surface from years of use but are in good shape overall.\n\nThis Good Companion 4 was partially disassembled for proper cleaning, including the cleaning of all internal mechanisms with an appropriate solvent. Suitable lubrication has been applied where necessary, and all mechanisms are fully functional and include margins, margin release, backspace, shift-lock, line space selector, line space detente, paper support, and a clear and great-sounding bell.\n\nThis typewriter comes with its case, which has been cleaned inside and out and is in good condition. It has a tough lid and a baseboard on which the typewriter sits (the typewriter is lifted off of the baseboard by pressing in chrome buttons on either side of the typewriter). The latch closes, and, despite missing one of its chrome fixings, the handle is sturdy and can be used to carry the case. The chrome latch has been cleaned and polished to a shine.\n\nThe typing action of the Good Companion 4 is quite similar to that of its predecessors, including the Model 1, though maybe a bit 'tighter.' It is solid and direct if also a bit raw in comparison to the refinements made in some other typewriters in the '50s and '60s. There is no touch selector on this model of typewriter - I would describe its default typing pressure as \"medium\" with a slightly longer stroke. \n\nThis typewriter uses a carriage shift and types in elite at 11 cpi (characters per inch). It prints very nicely in either black or red and has a new ribbon installed on its metal spools.\n\nThe typewriter will be carefully packaged in a well-sized cardboard box with signed-for delivery and insurance.\n\n! Please be aware, duties may be charged to the buyer for overseas purchases !\n\nPlease review the estimated dates of delivery below before purchase. For all orders shipped to addresses outside of the UK I aim for delivery of your order within 5-6 days of shipment (very often, delivery takes as little as 3-4 days). I am not responsible for delays caused by shipping companies, couriers, or customs officials, but I will always work to contact shipping companies to resolve a delay should one occur.\n\n! PLEASE NOTE ! - offshore UK addresses have increased postage costs, and I kindly request an additional £10 if required to ship to such an address. Please inquire if you require such shipment, and I'll be happy to work with you!\n\nI enjoy refurbishing typewriters as well as typing on them. My process of reconditioning typewriters is a sympathetic one: careful cleaning, lubrication and repairs and\/or replacement of parts when necessary. I sell typewriters that I have regularly used for writing; if not, they have gone through thorough testing and adjustment to make sure they are up to writing speed. If you have any questions about the typewriter or what you're after, please let me know.","brand":"The Write Typer","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":57873550115147,"sku":null,"price":165.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/1046\/5624\/0971\/files\/83538e10-il_fullxfull.7737807854_f4eb.jpg?v=1784133536","url":"https:\/\/thewritetyper.co.uk\/products\/imperial-good-companion-4-typewriter-serviced-refreshed-and-ready-to-type","provider":"The Write Typer","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
