Why should I buy from your The Write Typer? Isn't it cheaper to buy a typewriter on Ebay?

In most cases, yes - typewriters usually are cheaper on Ebay. However, the majority of typewriters on Ebay require a service, which includes, but is not limited to, a deep clean (typewriters can be unbelievably dirty), adjustment, and installation of a new ribbon. In addition to a general servicing, typewriters bought from Ebay may require repairs - mechanical problems are not always visible in photos. Typewriters sold by The Write Typer, on the other hand, go through disassembly, deep cleaning, adjustment, repairs, detailing and thorough testing.

Shipping & Delivery

I am worried about the shipment of my typewriter. Do you pack them properly?

I can empathise with the anxiety related to buying a typewriter that needs to be shipped, especially if it needs to be shipped internationally. Please allow me to put you at ease: I spend an hour or more packing up each typewriter. Where appropriate, typewriters have their carriage locks disengaged, to protect them, and their carriage release levers engaged, to prevent jamming of or damage to the escapement.

Typewriters are packed within their cases and also receive plenty of packing between their cases and the walls of the cardboard box. In over 6 years of shipping typewriters, I have not had an incident of a typewriter arriving damaged.

What if my typewriter arrives damaged?

If your typewriter arrives damaged, please contact the shop via the contact form (or at thewritetypershop@gmail.com) as soon as possible.

Please provide:

  • your order details;

  • photographs of the packaging;

  • photographs of the product and any damage.

This information helps me assess the issue and work with you towards an appropriate resolution.

Where appropriate, I will assist with the claims process with the delivery provider.

Please retain all packaging materials until the matter has been resolved, as they may be required for inspection or courier claims.

Will I need to pay customs or import duties?

International orders may be subject to customs duties and taxes imposed by your country. These charges are the responsibility of the buyer and are not included in our prices.

Do you provide tracking?

Yes, all orders are sent with a tracked service. You will receive a tracking number by email once your order has been dispatched.

How long does a service take?

Turnaround times vary depending on the condition of the machine and current workload. An estimated time-frame will be given when you get in touch.

The Write Typer accepts all major credit and debit cards, as well as PayPal and other payment methods available at checkout.

I placed an order — what happens next?

You'll receive an order confirmation by email. The Write Typer will then prepare and pack your typewriter and send you tracking details once it's dispatched.
